When discharge is not an option, ZLD becomes the only option.

A Zero Liquid Discharge plant eliminates liquid effluent entirely — every drop of wastewater is recovered, and the residual salts and solids are extracted in transportable form. For industries operating under sectoral ZLD mandates, in CGWA-restricted zones, or in water-stressed clusters, this isn't a sustainability gesture. It's the operating model.

The arithmetic of ZLD.

Conventional treatment is a one-way street: water comes in, is partially used, treated, and discharged. ZLD closes that street entirely. The biological + RO + evaporation chain recovers 95%+ of the water as reusable permeate, and converts the concentrated reject — often the most expensive part of the stream — into solids that can be containerised and removed.

ZLD is unforgiving engineering. The smallest design error in scaling prediction, salinity modelling or condensate quality can cost lakhs in operating cost, or push an entire production line out of compliance. We design with proven margin, validated chemistries and operator-grade redundancy — and we model the recovery economics before signing any contract.

The four-stage ZLD chain

A

Pre-treatment

Equalisation, primary, biological, tertiary — same rigour as ETP, but tuned for downstream RO membrane survival.

B

RO recovery

High-recovery RO trains (often two-pass) recover 70–85% of treated effluent as reusable permeate.

C

MEE evaporation

Multi-effect evaporators concentrate the RO reject, recovering more clean condensate while minimising steam consumption.

D

ATFD / crystalliser

Agitated thin-film dryer or crystalliser converts the final concentrated reject into transportable solids.
